High-Speed Imaging of Water Hammer Cavitation in Oil–Hydraulic Pipe Flow

نویسندگان

چکیده

A pipe water hammer with column separation was studied in a range of flow rates (Re=465 to 2239) test rig an acrylic glass observation section. Pressure transients were measured piezoresistive pressure sensors, while the gas evaporation and condensation captured by high-speed recording Photron SA-Z at frame rate 75,000 fps. Separation lengths estimated threshold value images. The results did not show sharp gas–oil interface but consisted small, dispersed bubbles mixed larger vapor structures, where seemed become smaller after each collapse. These findings differ from transient cavitating characteristics commonly reported nonhydraulic piping systems governed different fluid properties time scales. Good repeatability, both terms bubble distribution, observed. quantified as metric length, which consistent between tests. Combined measurements, these may assist obtaining better understanding cavitation dynamics within oil–hydraulic well be used improve modelling strategies towards more accurate erosion predictions.

Effect of drop in pipe wall stiffness on water-hammer speed and attenuation

The effect of local drop of wall stiffness in pressurized waterways on the pressure wave speed and the wave attenuation during transients is investigated experimentally. A new signal-processing procedure to identify the presence of a weak reach is introduced and validated by physical experimentation based on assessing the pressure and vibration records acquired at both ends of a multi-reach ste...

High Speed Imaging of Cavitation around Dental Ultrasonic Scaler Tips

Cavitation occurs around dental ultrasonic scalers, which are used clinically for removing dental biofilm and calculus. However it is not known if this contributes to the cleaning process. Characterisation of the cavitation around ultrasonic scalers will assist in assessing its contribution and in developing new clinical devices for removing biofilm with cavitation. The aim is to use high speed...

Experimental and Numerical Simulation of Water Hammer in Water Conveyance Pipeline and Effect of Surge Tower Pipe in Controlling this Phenomenon

Water hammer is one of the unsteady flows in urban water distribution networks, which has been of great importance due to the damage caused to the pipeline and has always been of interest to researchers. In this study, the phenomenon of water hammer due to the sudden closure of the valve in the downstream end has been investigated in a laboratory and using a numerical model. In the laboratory s...

Large Eddy Simulation of Cavitation Inception in a High Speed Flow over an Open Cavity

Large-eddy simulation of flow over an open cavity corresponding to the experimental setup of Liu and Katz [1] is performed. The flow Reynolds number based on the cavity length and the free stream velocity is 170,000. The filtered, incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved using a co-located grid finite-volume solver with the dynamic Smagorinsky model for subgrid scale closure. The compu...

High-speed observation of acoustic cavitation erosion in multibubble systems.

Cleaning and erosion of objects by ultrasound in liquids are caused by the action of acoustic cavitation bubbles. Experiments have been performed with respect to the erosive effect of multibubble structures on painted glass surfaces and on aluminium foils in an ultrasonic standing wave field at 40 kHz. High-speed imaging techniques have been employed to investigate the mechanisms at work, in pa...
